The Lödöse Museum is one of Sweden’s leading archaeological institutions, located on the site of one of the country’s earliest medieval towns. Founded in 1965 after extensive excavations, the museum moved in 1994 to its current purpose-built space inspired by the medieval Bjälbo Palace in Vadstena.

Primarily focused on archaeology and the Middle Ages, the museum offers engaging exhibitions and educational activities for all ages, including events, workshops, and guided tours. It also explores more recent aspects of cultural history, making it a dynamic space for learning and discovery.

Lödöse is one of Sweden’s richest archaeological sites, and the museum plays a key role in preserving and interpreting this heritage. Alongside its public programming, it is active in research and cultural heritage management. With its hands-on approach and strong community ties, the Lödöse Museum brings history to life in the Västra Götaland region.
