Arne Ivar Mikalsen Elected Vice President of Via Querinissima!

Yesterday, 24 February 2025, the Executive Board of the International Association Via Querinissima unanimously elected Arne Ivar Mikalsen as Vice President, following a proposal by President Roberto Ciambetti.

Arne Ivar Mikalsen currently serves as County Councillor for Society, Culture, and Environment at the Nordland County Council.

In supporting the nomination, President Roberto Ciambetti highlighted two key reasons: “It is a well-deserved recognition of the important role Nordland County has played in Via Querinissima since its inception. Additionally, it is a personal acknowledgment of Arne Ivar Mikalsen’s dedication to the project since he took office as County Councillor.”

Upon accepting the nomination, Arne Ivar Mikalsen stated: “I am fully committed to ensuring the success of the Via Querinissima project, with particular dedication to achieving official recognition from the Council of Europe.” He also emphasized: “It is a great honor for me to accept this nomination not only personally but also on behalf of the Nordland County Council, in my role as County Councillor for Society, Culture, and Environment.” Arne Ivar reaffirmed Nordland County Council’s strong commitment, noting: “The Nordland County Council has been involved in this project for over a decade and continues to offer its full support.” The new Vice President also reflected on the historical significance of Nordland in the Via Querinissima journey: “In Nordland, Pietro Querini and his companions were warmly welcomed by the community of Røst. Via Querinissima is both a celebration of this story of hospitality and an important opportunity to strengthen ties and build bridges with the rest of Europe.”

A trained social scientist, Arne Ivar Mikalsen has dedicated his career to adult education and is an expert in culture and education, with a remarkable ability to develop projects and ideas.
