Pietro Querini – Travelling Pentamodi –Candia – Venice – Norway: An Endless Journey

In 1431, Querini set out from Candia, present-day Heraklion, on his great journey to Norway, aboard a ship loaded with 800 barrels of Malvasia wine, grain, dried figs, raisins and olive oil, and with a crew of 68 men.

Querini was born in Candia in 1400. His origins can be traced to the wider Malevizi region and, more specifically, to the village of Pentamodi, which today belongs to the Municipality of Heraklion.
